Your Best Year 2017 – Review + Giveaway!

Every year, around the beginning of October, I start checking my mailbox feverishly awaiting the arrival of Lisa Jacobs’ Your Best Year workbook.

If you were to ask me what the #1 best thing I have ever done for my business is (and many of you have), my answer would be finding and following Lisa. This woman is a firecracker in the best sense of the word, and never fails to inspire and impart valuable lessons through her blog (Marketing Creativity) and online courses.

Lisa has been creating and upgrading Your Best Year each and every year since 2013. Hands-down one of my favorite creative business tools, this workbook has become a staple in my own business since the very beginning.

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on an advance digital copy of Lisa’s Your Best Year 2017 last week, and it was all I could do not to put everything on pause until I got through the whole thing!

A cooler head prevailed, however, and I still got all of my tasks accomplished for the week. But you’d better bet that I traded in Netflix time in the evenings for mega-planning time all week long. Best trade-off ever if you ask me! :)

Today, I’m sharing my full review along with some peeks inside this incredible workbook. Oh, and stay tuned until the end… Lisa and I have something extra special just for you!

Your Best Year 2017

As I mentioned earlier, Your Best Year has quickly become one of my go-to tools in planning and goal-setting for my creative business. Its pages are chock full of insightful tips, thought-provoking prompts, and practical exercises to shape your very own best year.

Your Best Year 2017 is here!!! One of my favorite tools for crafting my creative business, #yby2017 is kicking it up a notch this year! Here's my full review + a special surprise for you :)One of my favorite aspects of this planner is the fact that Lisa acknowledges that our business and personal lives are not always separate.

Especially as a creative entrepreneur, there can be a large gray area when it comes to how we spend our “working” hours during the day.

In my own business, it’s very common to find me doing a load of laundry while on a conference call, replying to emails and blog comments while watching a movie, or even listening to the latest business or personal development book while out on a walk with the pup.

Your Best Year 2017 will encourage you to focus on five key areas in your life (financial, spiritual, physical, relational & mental), all while building a great business strategy for the year to come.

Lisa keeps tweaking and improving the content each year, and this year’s edition is truly the best yet! Broken down into three sections (Process, Prepare, Practice), Your Best Year 2017 is not only a goal-setting machine, but an actual step-by-step guide to finally breaking out of your rut and creating the business of your dreams.

Here’s a break-down of what you will find inside:

In this section, Lisa asks you some great review questions. Getting clear on where you are now, what you have accomplished so far this year, and identifying your limitations are just a few of the exercises you’ll encounter here.

Here are some screenshots from my digital copy (edited with the Good Notes app on my iPad):

This section will help you narrow down your focus and decide what projects and plans to hone in on. Get ready to set your income goal for next year and come up with an annual strategy to help you get there.

The final section of Your Best Year 2017 is probably my favorite! This is where all of your goals and dreams become a part of a living, breathing strategy.

This is where the magic happens, y’all!

Each month, you’ll be prompted to prioritize your monthly goals, organize weekly tasks, assess your strengths and weaknesses, and keep a daily record of your business income through an abundance tracker.

You’ll also be taking a quarterly assessment where you create a progress log, set goals in accordance with your annual plan, and update your annual strategy as needed.

I immediately fell in love with the idea of an abundance tracker. So much so, that I decided to give it a spread in my Bullet Journal:

When I was preparing to write this review, I reached out to Lisa to see if she would allow me to create a free printable Abundance Tracker to share with you. She said yes!!!

To end this review, I’d like to quote my own review of Your Best Year 2016 (because it still holds true):

“Bottom line: this workbook packs a serious punch and tremendous value. I would have gladly paid 3 times as much for the incredibly value that Lisa has provided in this gem. If you are a creative entrepreneur (or even if you’re not there yet but are dreaming of making your business dreams a reality), then this is the planner for you!”

My own physical copy of Your Best Year 2017 arrived in the mail yesterday, and I’m excited to put pen to paper and further cement my goals for the upcoming year. Who’s with me?

Lisa was incredibly gracious and reached out to me about giving away not one, but TEN COPIES of Your Best Year 2017 to my readers (that’s you!).

The 10X Rule by Grant CardoneTo sweeten the deal even further, she’s also including a bonus copy of The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone!

Admittedly one of Lisa’s favorite reads of 2016, I’ve been listening to the Audible version of this gem during my morning walks all week, and I’m loving it!

You are keeping me too busy these days! First with ideas sparked by your NaNo prep and now this! And I am meeting with a friend on Monday (holiday off for us) and we are doing some goal planning for 2017!

  • my two favorite creative people in one article <3 I do not have a business (no income) with my blog but really want to increase readership and followers in the coming year, would the Your Best Year planner work for me as well? I am not allowed to work until the end of the year, so it is the right time to boost my blog!

  • Awesome opportunity – and I’m glad you clarified that this is still useful for those of us who are still dreaming. One of my post NaNo goals is setting up my author website and social media pages – this would be a great addition to my planning process! Thank you!

    • You’re welcome, Annie! The goal-setting exercises are worth the price of the book even if you don’t do anything else :)

  • i used this book last year to help plan my blog and how I wanted to grow that, and where I wanted to take my writing. You def. don’t have to be a business person to benefit from it. However, I have some long term goals that are going to be including that aspect, so I can’t wait to dig in this year. <3

    • That’s one of the things that I love about this book, Beth! It’s applicable to so many different scenarios :)

  • Lindsay Vanhove

I would love to win a copy!! I downloaded the 2016 book with the last flash sale but in the end didn’t really use it… life (new job) got in my way and I totally forgot about it. I really want to give this a chance!!
I’m not from the USA but I have some friends living in the USA who can ship it to me if I would win…I hope that’s fine with you. See it as a sign how much I really want to win, haha. :)

    • Hi Lindsay! As long as the shipping address is within the US you will be fine :)

      • Lindsay Vanhove

        Hooray! Thank you :)

  • Great giveaway! I entered. I will be staring my nursing career in 2017 and this would be nice to set my goals in!

  • Thanks to your recommendation, I purchased the Your Best Year 2017 digital version over the weekend. I’ve been getting very excited as I work through it! :)

  • Jen

After a really rough 2016 where my planning and goals all went in the tank (due to deaths, jobs, health, etc.), I am ready to welcome in 2017! This sounds great. Getting to the core of what I want to focus on and integrating my life would be a dream come true. I hadn’t heard of this before and am very excited. Thanks Lisa and Kara!

  • Claudia

I am still wondering what the abundance tracker is for… can you please explain? Thank you.

    • I think it’s for tracking how much money you’re earning + also expressing gratitude for it. :)

      • Claudia

        OK, thank you!

  • Day Ree

OMG this is awesome! 10/10 is My bday and it would totally be fate if I won. I could use a little luck!

  • Alexandra

So glad you reviewed Your Best Year 2017! I remember when you reviewed the 2016 one + I sat on the fence about whether to buy it because I didn’t think I was creative or that I was ready to do all of that with my business + in the end decided not too. Such a mistake. This year I’m totally going for it!
Thanks for reviewing it, it gave me that extra push + I can’t wait to start planning for 2017.

  • This sounds awesome! Great review! :)

  • Great review Kara, but couldn’t just one or two be international in the giveaway? We need a plan over here in Europe too! ;)

I like the prompts also :) but I can’t seem to find a monday-sunday monthly and weekly spread in my digital version. If there aren’t traditional spreads, do u make ones on a seperate planner?
Cute blog and YT channel btw. <3

hi Kara! ive been reading a lot about this, i just found about it through your youtube video and i think its awesome, i just have one more question, does it interfere with the bujo? i want to start one in january but i dont know if it would be redundant having both…i need to decide, someone help me pls

  • stampified

I just bought this yesterday and love it! I have a question about the abundance tracker though. Do you fill out how much you bring home under each day, or the cumulative for the month under each day? Does that make sense? For example, if I made $5 on both the first and second of the month, would they each say $5 under them, or would the 2nd say $10?
