My WorkBox 3.0 Reveal!

After a full week of assembly and finding just the right spot for all of my goodies, I’m SO excited to finally share my WorkBox 3.0 with you today!

A while back I saw a video on Facebook from The Original Scrapbox and I knew right away that I wanted/needed a WorkBox in my home office. Then I saw the price tag… talk about sticker shock!

Even though the price shocked me a bit, I knew that this was something that I desperately wanted, so I immediately set up a line item in my budget. I started setting aside a few dollars here and there, and eventually, I was ready to buy!

I can’t even begin to express my excitement when I finally hit that purchase button. It was SUCH a great feeling to know that I had saved for something that I truly wanted. And I was even more excited when I learned that my WorkBox 3.0 was on its way to my doorstep.

Today, I’ll be showing you some up-close pics of my WorkBox and also sharing a bit about the assembly process. If you’d like to see the video tour, be sure to scroll down to the end of this post 🙂

Before we get started, I’d like to say that I’m not affiliated in any way with The Original Scrapbox. I purchased this unit with my own money and I don’t earn any kind of kickbacks by referring you over to their website.

PURCHASE & DELIVERY

When it came time to purchase my WorkBox, I knew that I wanted to add a couple of upgrades. Here is the configuration that I went with including the cost breakdown:

Grand Total: $2,159.90

The purchase process was relatively easy. At the time, the WorkBox was on back-order, so I put down a $250 deposit with the understanding that they would email me for the remainder of the payment when my WorkBox was ready to ship. According to the website, this would be between 4-6 weeks.

Imagine my surprise when just ONE week later, they emailed to let me know it was time to settle up so that my WorkBox could ship! I was overjoyed!

My WorkBox arrived on a Monday and according to the shipping manifest, it weighed a whopping 675 pounds!

ASSEMBLY

As soon as it arrived I realized this was going to be a much bigger chore to put together than I had originally thought. And of course, it was supposed to rain that afternoon and my husband was at work, so I knew that I had to get all of the boxes inside as soon as possible.

I slowly moved all 13+ boxes into my hallway. Let me tell you — a few of these boxes were HEAVY!

That same day, I started opening the boxes and carrying each individual piece inside up to my second floor home office.

I worked one box at a time over the course of two days until I had everything assembled.

* A note about assembly:

In the past, the WorkBox had been notorious for how difficult it was to assemble. They’ve since taken a few steps to make the process simpler and easier to execute. In addition to the written instructions, they also include a link to an assembly video that is super helpful.

Although this is technically a two-person job, I did all of this on my own up until the crown and shelving installation.

Was it difficult to assemble? No. But it was very time-consuming!

On day 3, Mr. Boho Berry hopped in and helped me to install the crown on top and all of the shelving, rails, etc. Finally, my WorkBox 3.0 was complete!

PS – I can TOTALLY fit more shelves and bins in this thing, I just chose to leave them spaced apart a bit more. In the future, I can always move the shelves closer together to add more bins if needed :)

MAKING MY WORKBOX 3.0 MY OWN

After three days of assembly, it was finally time to load up my WorkBox with all of my goodies. At first, I didn’t think I’d be able to fill it completely. But as I slowly scoured the entire house for all of my crafting goodies, I realized I might come pretty close!

I spent nearly two whole days arranging and re-arranging all of my supplies until I was completely happy with where everything was.

Check out the gallery below to see some close-ups! (You can click any image to see the whole thing and click through the slideshow)

Needless to say, I’m more than a little excited about how my WorkBox turned out! I’m still in awe of how much STUFF I had, and I can guarantee you that my husband is happy that all of this stuff is no longer tucked away all over the house!

THE REST OF MY OFFICE

I’m planning on doing a full office tour for you very soon, but I thought you might like to take a peek at the rest of my office as well.

On the wall to the right of my WorkBox sits my teal desk. I’ve been getting a TON of questions about my teal desk lately, and I can assure you that YES, she is staying! :)

This is the view from the chair at my WorkBox 3.0. I have a small cube bookshelf along the wall, topped with two square bins from Michaels. I was using these previously to store a few of the things that now live in my WorkBox. For now, they are sitting empty but I’m sure I’ll fill them soon :)

And finally, we have my stand-up desk. This is where I stand to edit photos, videos, and more!

I’ve already watched the video but had to pop over here to read more about the purchase & setup. Thank you for sharing all of this – you are so genuine, honest, and inviting it’s like I’m visiting with an old friend. :-)

  • Kelly Cozens

@KaraBenz I love this! My collection is still much smaller and I currently use a lapdesk to do my bullet journalling, but I’m in love with your teal desk. May I ask where you got IT? TIA.

    • Hope

Kara talked about her teal desk once and I think she said she got it from a garage sale or something and painted it that color. Check her social media to fact check me PLEASE, since I know she said it somewhere!

      • Kelly Cozens

Thanks Hope. I actually saw that after on her instagram, and you’re right, she bought it second-hand.

    • Hope is right that I got the desk second-hand. In one of my very first blog posts here, I talked about the process of re-painting it, etc. if you’re curious: http://www.bohoberry.com/diy-desk-makeover/

    Kara,

I have organization envy! It’s beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

On a different note, I want to thank you for your honesty and transparency about how much it cost and how long you had to save up to get it. I feel like so many of the “famous” people I follow on social media can buy whatever they want whenever they want it. I admire and respect your determination to save up for something you really want. Thanks for making me feel “normal”.

    Thanks again!
    ~Elyse

    • Thank you Elyse! I definitely have to save up for big purchases just like everyone else :)

  • Wow that shipping price is crazy…but they are sending a lot of stuff so it makes sense. I can’t believe how many boxes it came in!

    • It definitely surprised me! But the shipping manifest said it was 675 pounds so I kind of get the shipping cost after reading that!

  • Vincent Kendall

I find myself needing this more and more.. Thank you for giving pricing details and assembly details it is nice to have the information going into the possible purchase of one. I love the pops of teal in your office it’s one of my favorite colors… You have a really nice creattive space.

    • Thank you Vincent! I’m so glad that you found the information helpful :)

  • Judy Hudgins

now that I have drooled all over my coffee mug this morning….I am so envious. And it is now on my ‘wish list’ when we move back to North Carolina next year. I can put my fabric/fibers/art supplies all in one spot! Love it.

  • Else-Maria Tennessen

What a fabulous work setup! Congrats! Thanks for this post. :)

  • Bridget

Very cool. Also, it’s not weird at all to have paper towels. I think it is essential.

I love it. And the way you organized it is wonderful. I have extreme envy!!! Thank you for everything you do and give to the community.

Wowed by the before-during-and-after photos, what a tremendous undertaking but so worth it in the end! I once *dragged* a huge, heavy Ikea desktop up the stairs, put it together myself too, but something like this, time would be against me. Give me a screwdriver (or a paintbrush) and let me loose! And like you I need help from my Mr. Boho Berry, for the over the head and electrical projects, and oh yeah, under the car. Thank goodness for complementary talents! So drawn to the teal desk, too. Thanks, Kara, this is marvelous.

  • Erin Modlin

Have you named that little baby Leuchterm, Lol??? It’s so cute!! Also, does anybody remember Scrooge McDuck and how he would roll around in his safe full of gold coins? I want to do that with all the pens….mmmmmm……pens. :-) :-)

  • Diane C

Great job! I received my Workbox 3.0 last week and am attempting to assemble it solo. I had no problem putting together the Left Box but I am having an issue with the Left Swing Door. There seems to be a huge gap at the bottom which I have an e-mail to Customer Service about. I had an issue with the Right Box…..I was sent to Side 1’s vs a Side 1 and Side 2. Customer Service has already sent me out Side 2. How in the world did you manage to put together the Center Box on your own???!!!!??? I have been struggling with that for 3 days now! It just isn’t lining up. When I get the left side assembled and put the shelves in and the top, I cannot to save my soul get the right side to hook up! I have been swearing like a sailor and having to take numerous breaks due to irritability …. LOL. So, 1) You’re awesome for having put that thing together by yourself and 2) how the heck did you do it????? LOL Diane

  • Aldona Spiegel

    Hi Kara,

I really love this! Thank you for sharing. Could you please also share the source of the trays? They appeat to be stackable?
    Thank you!!

  • Heather Wilkinson

Any way to see a picture of it closed? I love this concept, but my goal would be to put it all away until I sat down to use it.
