Traffic and Income Report – July, 2015

My 2nd Traffic and Income Report! Join me from the VERY beginning on my journey to a profitable blog!

Can you believe that it’s August already? I feel like July just flew by! I can’t believe that I’m already sitting here pouring over my July numbers. It’s hard to believe that it has already been a month since I posted my very first Traffic & Income Report (it really feels like just yesterday), but here I am — ready to share what all my hard work has brought me for the month.

If you are just tuning in to my monthly reports, let me set the stage for you a bit. I decided to start sharing my traffic and income from the very beginning for two reasons:

  1. I knew that it would be a great way for me to hold myself accountable. I know that when the first of the month rolls around, it’s time for me to crunch my numbers and really analyze what is working and what is not with my business. The goal setting that I’ve included in these reports also helps me to stay on track and maintain a focus that I really didn’t have before.
  2. The second reason is that I hope to inspire other newbie bloggers in the way that I have been inspired. I’m hugely obsessed with reading other bloggers’ income reports and learning how they gain traffic, engage their audience, and above all: how they make money online.

My 2nd Traffic and Income Report! Join me from the VERY beginning on my journey to a profitable blog!

A few things to note before we begin:

  • I am totally in the baby stages of building this blog. I started the Boho Berry Blog back in April, 2015. I started recording my traffic and income in June, 2015.
  • I don’t have (nor will I ever have) Google Adsense or any other ad networks on my blog. I don’t like ads on blogs, and I don’t believe that they are a good fit for my brand. The only brands or companies that I will advertise on my blog are ones that I have used myself and 100% endorse.
  • Some months, I will write a short “spotlight” review for one of the ways that I used to generate income that month. I’ll talk about things like how easy (or hard) it was to sign up, what kind of technical issues I faced (since I’m such a dweeb at these things!), and their pay-out policy, etc.
  • Please note that I am NOT including any of the income that I make from selling my malas, boho bracelets and jewelry over at the Boho Berry Shop. For the purposes of this traffic and income report, I am only concerned with the income I make through the Boho Berry Blog.
  • At the end of every monthly traffic and income report, I’ll have a goal-setting section. I’ll be reviewing my previous month’s goals and setting new ones for the next month.

Let’s get on with the fun stuff now, shall we?

DPD* (or Digital Product Delivery) is an easy to use digital publishing platform for selling and delivering digital content. I signed up for DPD back in June because I wanted to start including free content upgrades in a few of my posts and I needed an affordable way to do so.

DPD charges a flat monthly fee based on how many digital products you have in your “store”. This is different than other similar platforms that charge you a monthly fee in addition to taking a cut or percentage of your sale price. For my needs, I am paying just $10 per month to host my digital downloads with DPD.

What’s great about DPD is that it also integrates with your email service provider. I was able to quickly link DPD to my Aweber* account and now anytime someone downloads one of my freebies or purchases my ebook, they automatically receive an opt-in to join my mailing list as well!

DPD offers a 30 Day free trial so that you can have time to look around and test out all of their features before you decide to take the plunge. I was sold after the first week!

Their referral program is wonderful, too! For each paid subscriber that you refer, DPD* pays you 30% of their payment subscriptions each month for as long as they remain subscribed. Your referral payments are sent via PayPal between the 10th & 15th of the following month.

I don’t expect these referrals to be a huge source of income for me, but I do think that it could be a nice little supplement to my blog’s income in the future, so stay tuned!

July Traffic and Income Report @

First, let me say that YES, I know that my numbers are a little lower across the board than the month of June. I knew this would happen because I took a lot of time off while my daughter was here and didn’t really stay on top of my Social Media game for a couple of weeks.

See that dip in traffic between July 8th and July 22nd? That is where I was not really promoting my posts or actively driving traffic to my blog in any way besides my scheduled Facebook & Twitter updates. As soon as I got back on track, my pageviews got back on track as well, so I expect August to show a much more positive trend.

  • Pageviews: 2,177 (down 890 or 29% from June)
  • Users: 1,141 (down 72 or 5% from June)
  • Sessions: 1,412 (down 82 or 5% from June)
  • Average Session Duration: 1:31 (down 1:19 or 48% from June)
  • Bounce Rate: 72.17% (down 6.41% [that’s a good thing!] from June)

Now, let’s take a look at where all that traffic came from, shall we?

July Traffic and Income Report @

Facebook, Pinterest & Twitter remain my top 3 social traffic sources for the month of July. Pinterest is definitely starting to take off and I expect it to become my top referral source by the time I post my August traffic numbers.

I attribute my Pinterest growth to joining several group boards to broaden my reach. If you are interested in doing the same, then I highly recommend you check out my girl Whitney from The Common Great! She has an awesome post about creating your own group boards and finding other group boards to follow & contribute to as well.

Hi Kara! thanks so much for sharing your income and traffic report! Indeed I find that promoting the content we create is really fundamental in bringing up traffic… oh regarding newsletter subscribers, you should download the free SumoMe plugin, which will enable you to allow pop ups for people to subscribe to your blog (thanks to that plugin, my subscribers have increased way up!)

    greetings from Buenos Aires

    • Thank you Felicia! I have heard of SumoMe but I am SO hesitant to add pop-ups to my site. I have one (exit intent) pop-up and that is all I really feel comfortable with as I don’t want to turn off visitors.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting! :)

  • Jessica Haynes

Pinned this! This is such a great reference for us bloggers, and a cool and interesting thing to publish directly on the blog. What is the purpose, would you say, of publishing something like this? Is it simply to help and inform others/bloggers/your readers?

    • Hi Jessica! Thanks for the pin, I really appreciate you spreading the word! :)

As far as my reasons for sharing this info, I did touch on that in the beginning of the post, but in a nutshell I find that it’s a great way to keep myself on track and also to help other bloggers in their journey as well!

      • Jessica Haynes

Ha! I was so focused on the actual report and infographics I missed that at the beginning of the post. Totally something I’ll refer back to as I try to grow my readership!

        • Haha, it’s all good Jessica! I’ll be including tips on how I’m growing my readership from now on so stay tuned for sure :)

  • I like how you’re structuring your report! It’s amazing that social media can have such an impact on blog traffic!

    • Thank you, Tori!

I think that social media is important at all stages, but especially so in the beginning while growing a new blog from nothing like I did.

The challenge is always to find your readers and make sure that they find you as well :)

  • Happily Ever Rushed

Great post and thank you for sharing. I am still trying to monetize and it has been a couple of years. Good luck to you and I will keep up with your posts.

    • Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m aiming for the non-icky ways to monetize so it’s a long road but I’m excited for the journey :)

  • Rae

I think it’s interesting to see how people earn an income from blogging as well as what their expenses are to keep everything running smoothly. Thanks for sharing!

    • My pleasure, Rae! Thanks for stopping by and checking it out :)

  • I always love reading traffic & income reports, also from bloggers that are just starting out! I think your drop in traffic might also be due to simply it being July – that’s generally a slow month as people are on vacation etc. :)

    • That’s really interesting, Kat! I didn’t even think about July being a slow month in general! Thanks for that insight! :)

  • Latte Cuddles

I would like to say, “I am right there with you, Kara!”. After looking at the numbers in your report, it is more like, “I am right there behind you, Kara!” lol :) I am so interested in your strategies as I am only a month into blogging and taking the #bootstrapping route. Hmm..that may be interesting to share as I’ve started this journey with $4.

Anywho, I’ll be watching out for your next months reports. Thanks for sharing via The Blog Life group.

    • Thanks for visiting, Caressa! I love that so many of us are on the same journey :)

  • liz lewis

I think you are doing great! I found you on the Blog Loft – and we started blogging around the same time. You actually have more emails than I do, but our traffic is pretty similar. I am not tracking it actively because it would make me depressed. :)

    • Haha, I hear you Liz! It can definitely be a little sad seeing those baby numbers from the beginning but it’s all about the progress, right? :)

  • Whoop Whoop!! You are doing so awesome! Congrats on your income this month. It will definitely increase over time! So glad I found your very inspirational blog girly! :-)

    • Aw, thank you Yanni! I’m looking forward to watching out “baby” blogs grow, for sure :)

  • Sarah Spencer

Every day is a step forward! <3

  • Go you!!! Onward and upward :-) x

  • Thanks for continuing to be such an inspiration! You are totally rocking it.

    • Thanks Angie! I’m loving your income/traffic reports too! It’s so awesome to feel like we’re in this together :)

  • This is quite a braze thing to put out there, but I love the accountability and honesty you create. It looks like you are reaching your goals- and it is good to track when and where you shift your focus. Awesome work!
    xx Jenelle

    • uh, *brave damn auto correct

    • Thank you Janelle! It’s definitely an exercise in accountability for myself as well :)

  • You are doing great! I wish I was able to do an income and traffic report but it would be sad how low my numbers are (I’m a little over a month into blogging and still learning). On a side note, I did realize your Bloglovin’ account ,when I clicked on it, isn’t showing any posts, When I first set mine up it showed me a code to put into each post to display it on there, you may need to do that to get them to show up on there :) I just subscribed to your blog, I love the style and can’t wait to take a look at all your posts :D

    • Thanks, Heather! When I go to my Bloglovin’ account, my recent posts do show up… now I’m really curious what the issue is.

Thanks for alerting me to the problem! :)

      • How odd! When I click your bloglovin icon it says “no new posts by this blog” and there’s nothing! Huh, wierd.

  • This really is fantastic! I’m about to launch my blog and this may be a good idea! So informative. I found you via Facebook :)

  • Chelsea Roehl

<3 this!! I love how open you are already!! How do you increase your traffic? I would LOVE to hear about your best methods for boosting traffic!

    • Thank you, Chelsea! My main focus for increasing traffic is through social media for sure, primarily Facebook & Pinterest.

I’ll be releasing my August numbers this coming Thursday and I plan on diving deep into what drove my traffic up this month. For now I’ll just say that I’m up around 200% in pageviews, sessions, and unique visitors… yay! :)

Have you thought about including geography in your report? It would be fun to see how far around the world your blog has gone. :-) Still loving it.

    • Thanks Dawn! It’s something I always look at but never considered adding it here… what a great idea! :)
