Creating a Life Worth Waking Up For

In the wake of creating my personal mission statement last week, I found myself thinking long and hard about the life that I want to live. I began thinking about the person that I want to be as well as the type of blogger that I want to be. One thing kept repeating itself over and over in my mind: “I want to live a life worth waking up for!”

Here’s a little something that you may not know about me. In the past I’ve suffered with pretty serious bouts of depression. There was a time in my life when I would sleep until almost noon! I would nap as often as possible, and not because I was tired. Or at least not in the literal sense of the word.

When I look back at those times in my life I see one common thread. I didn’t have a purpose. I went through the motions of course. I had friends, I kept a full-time job, I even had meaningful relationships. But I didn’t have a guiding sense of purpose in my life and therefore nothing to look forward to when my feet hit the floor in the morning.

Luckily, in the past few years there has been a series of events that have brought me back to my true self. I began reading books about personal development and reading blogs along the same lines. I slowly rediscovered who I was and who I wanted to become.

In essence, I started to create a life worth waking up for.

“The more we experience joy in life, the more we can’t wait to get up and start living it.” – Joshua Becker (Becoming Minimalist)

Creating a Life Worth Waking Up For

HOW TO CREATE A LIFE WORTH WAKING UP FOR:

>> Find Your Passion:

In my blog post How to Ignite Your Passion + Find Your Calling, I wrote the following:

“Once I made the full shift into following my passion, I started to see immense growth. Not only in my blog and business, but in all other areas of my life as well. Writing about these topics that inspire me has lead to a massive positive shift in my life, and for that I could not be more grateful!”

>> The Power of Affirmations:

In my Ebook, Create Your Amazing Life, I talk a lot about the many different ways that I have come back to my true self. Methods that I have employed to start living a life full of passion and purpose. One of those is through Affirmations.

Affirmations are one of the life S.A.V.E.R.S. discussed in the Miracle Morning, and for good reason. Although I’ve always felt a little goofy reading affirmations out loud, the truth is that they work!

My favorite affirmation at the moment?

“I am powerfully positive in what I do, think, and say.”

>> Visualize Your Life as You Want to Live It:

The very next step in the SAVERS is “Visualization”. This is another one that I struggled with for a bit. I thought that I needed to sit there and visualize my life in my mind’s eye. Being a very visual person, that was a tough one for me.

Up until now, I’ve been using this Pinterest board as a tool to help me visualize the life that I am striving for on a daily basis. I open it up and scroll through the inspiring pictures, visualizing the whole time what I want my life to be like.

Enter the Gloment Vision Poster

A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from Luisa at a company called Gloment. She told she admired my blog and that they had created a Vision Poster for sale, and asked if I might take a look and let her know what I thought.

I was immediately smitten! “Finally!”, I thought. “An attractive way that I can visualize the life I want to live!” What I didn’t realize at first was how insightful this simple poster would be, and what an impact it would have on me when I saw it.

My very own Gloment Vision Poster: a great was to visualize a life worth waking up for each morning!

What makes these simple Vision Posters truly special is their questionnaire process upon ordering. Here’s a little tidbit from Gloment to give you an idea how it works:

We have prepared 10 questions for you that we will send you via email as soon as we received your order. The questions will lead you to your personal and very own vision.

Our graphic designer will then create your personal Vision Poster by hand and we will then print it and ship it to you.

Your Vision Poster will be your constant reminder of your dreams.

Having a clear vision will motivate you everyday. It will help you to make the right decisions day by day. When times get rough your vision will remind you why you chose this way – why you chose your way. Your vision keeps you focused on your dreams, your goals and your life. Having a clear picture in mind of the life you want to live makes achieving it all the more possible. Your vision gives you a clear direction and always reminds you that reaching it is worth taking every single step. Your vision is the foundation for your personal success – because, in the end you can only achieve goals that you have set for yourself.

The questionnaire is insightful, but it really doesn’t prepare you for seeing your poster for the first time. The way the folks at Gloment arrange your answers into this gorgeous poster is simply stunning!

  • This was such a motivating post. I had never thought to imagine my life this way, something worth waking up for, that’s really insightful. I do have a vision board but I honestly haven’t spent much time looking at it lately, that’ll have to change. I’ll look more into the acronym SAVERS as well. Thank you!

    • You’re very welcome, Rebecca!

I think the key to a vision board is having it front and center… It’s amazing the things you can manifest into reality by having a clear vision of what you want. The next key is setting goals around what you want and diving in with actionable steps to get there :)

Hope you’re having a great week!

I loved this and ordered my very own Vision Poster from Gloment – thanks so much for sharing them on your blog! Such a great idea.

    • Yay! You’re going to love it, Shannon! I know I was totally floored when I read mine for the first time, and even more excited when it arrived :)

I love this! Thanks for sharing! Creatong a mission statement – and having a visual reminder- is super powerful. I just ordered – 2016 is the year for me to focus on ME, so this is perfect!

  • Christa Allan

I just ordered a poster! Such a unique idea. Appreciate the heads-up!

    • You’re very welcome, Christa! Hope you have a great weekend and Happy New Year!

Everything you have said here is the reason my guiding word for 2016 is “Purposeful”! Time for me to start living a more purposeful life, enjoying more of what I love, moving things forward in a positive way instead of just drifting along treading water. The Gloment poster is beautiful, what a great idea as a daily reminder of your purpose.

    • Thanks Marie! ‘Purposeful’ is a great word! I wish you all the best in 2016 :)

Thanks for being a force for good. I must tell you that in the short time since I’ve begun following your blog and videos, you have fast become one of the people on my most-admired list-for your incredible talent and creativity, but mostly for your generosity of spirit. Wishing you all the best in 2016. And again, thank you!

I have to agree with you! I absolutely love Kara’s blog! And I too only found her blog several months ago but I look forward to reading it every day and love her Bullet Journal ideas and have watched all the videos. I look forward to 2016. Happy New Year Kara! Hope you have a great new year!

Hi Kara, Great positive blog post. I can’t see you sleeping until noon, because I think you’re one of the more productive people I know. Depression can literally zap the life out of one’s soul. Been there too. I host a vision board party every year with a group of women. It’s a fun way to create my vision for the upcoming year. I hang the vision board in my studio so I can look at it everyday. I LOVE your Vision poster, and I am plan to write my own Personal Statement. Wishing you an awesome 2016!

  • Rebecca Stoneman

    Thank you, Kara.

I have been on this journey for nearly a week and have learnt so much. Isn’t it amazing how things come to you. I needed help with my business and planning and found your blog!! I needed help with my mornings and you have given me the miracle morning.
Thank you so much. I am loving your freebies and all the information I am picking up from you.
You are a true inspiration and I can’t wait until I am well enough to post properly on my Blog and share your amazing Blog. xxx
