So… I’m gonna let you in on a little secret today: Last week I went back to work. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to write about it here, but when I really got to thinking about it I realized that I HAD to. I’m actually pretty excited about working again, not necessarily for the extra income, but more for the social interaction. Let me explain why.
Ever since I left my job back in April and opened my jewelry shop, I have been working my butt off trying to make it successful. In addition to making jewelry and marketing my shop, I also took on the daunting but awesome task of writing this blog. Even though all of this keeps me super busy and motivated, I was starting to get a little lonely at home all day every day.
Any creative business owner will tell you that entrepreneurship can be a very lonely gig. Next, factor in the fact that my closest friends all live 1,000 miles away from me, and you can see how I was starting to go a little stir crazy. There was just something missing.
After thinking about it long and hard, I realized that the something that was missing was so obvious! It was people. I was missing that social interaction, that camaraderie, and above all the fun atmosphere of my job. So, I texted my old boss and asked if I could come back to work part time, just 3-4 shifts per week. I was so excited when he said yes, and I started picking up shifts right away.
My first day back to work was awesome! It felt so good to see all of my old coworkers and catch up on the last 3 months. Now my feet on the other hand… that was a different story! My poor, poor feet! I didn’t realize how much my feet and leg muscles had softened after taking such a long hiatus. After my first shift, every muscle in my legs was aching. My poor feet got all swollen and were so relieved when I finally made it home and kicked my shoes off for the day.
Now that I’ve worked a few shifts, I feel like my feet and legs are back up to pace. What I’m most excited about though, is having people to talk to again (besides my husband of course ;). I’ve always considered myself to be a bit of an introvert but even introverts need some people time to stay sane, am I right?
So, even though the money is a (very) nice bonus, I’m even more excited to gain a little bit of my sanity back a few days a week. Just ask my husband and he’ll tell you that I tend to be a little obsessive about my pet projects. Ever since I started my business back in April, I have been eating living and breathing all things Boho Berry. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing, but going back to work a few days a week is definitely helping me to take a step back every so often and focus on something a little different.
This definitely doesn’t mean that I’ll be slowing down here on the blog though, so don’t you worry! If anything I’ll just have even more awesome stuff to write about because I’ll get inspired by more than just the 4 walls of my home office.
I’m super excited to be back to work at Distrito and even more excited to be able to share my adventure with you!
