Traffic and Income Report – June, 2015

I'm hopping on the bandwagon and sharing my Traffic and Income Report for June! Join me from the VERY beginning on my journey to a profitable blog!

Happy Thursday, Lovelies! I’m sure that by now, many of you have seen other bloggers doing monthly posts about their traffic and income report. Since before I started blogging, I obsessed over these reports (Regina from byRegina, Abby from Just a Girl and Her Blog, and Lindsay from Pinch of Yum, just to name a few). I get SO excited when I see a new one pop up on my Feedly. I just love seeing how it is absolutely possible to make money online as a blogger and creative business owner. I have been toying around with the idea of creating my own traffic and income report series for a few weeks now, but I never thought anyone would care to see my itty bitty report.

That is when I stumbled upon Marissa’s blog: Ampersand Creative. Marissa writes about blogging, branding, and entrepreneurship, all in a way so that you just “get it”. She recently started her very own traffic and income report, starting from scratch, at the very beginning. I was blown away! I was SO excited to read a baby traffic and income report. She inspired me to start my very own, and that is what I am sharing with you all today.

I'm hopping on the bandwagon and sharing my Traffic and Income Report for the month of June! Join me from the VERY beginning on my journey to a profitable blog!

A few things to note before we begin:

  • I am totally in the baby stages of building this blog. For those of you who have been with me from the beginning, I’m sure you have noticed a LOT of changes from when I first started out. I switched over from a WordPress.com site to a self-hosted WordPress.org site on May 10th. For that reason I don’t have full stats for the month of May to compare June to.
  • I have not begun to monetize my blog as of yet, so there really is no “income” to report, but I am working on lots of non-icky ways to turn my blog into a profitable business by the end of the year (more on that in my July goals section at the end).
  • Every month, I will be writing a short “spotlight” review of one of the ways that I used to generate income that month. I’ll talk about things like how easy (or hard) it was to sign up, what kind of technical issues I faced (since I’m such a dweeb at these things!), and their pay-out policy, etc.
  • Please note that I am NOT including any of the income that I make from selling my boho bracelets and jewelry over at the Boho Berry Shop. For the purposes of this traffic and income report, I am only concerned with the income I make through the Boho Berry Blog.
  • At the end of every monthly traffic and income report, I’ll have a goal-setting section. I’ll be reviewing my previous month’s goals and setting new ones for the next month.

So, without further ado, here is my very first teeny tiny traffic and income report!

TRAFFIC AND INCOME REPORT – JUNE, 2015

JUNE SPOTLIGHT: AWEBER

AWeber* is an email marketing and autoresponder software. I’ve been using AWeber to manage my email list since I started the Boho Berry Newsletter back in May. I love how simple AWeber is to use. They make it super simple to manage my lists. There are no long-term contracts, although you can select to pay quarterly or yearly for a bit of a discount.

I know that MailChimp is really popular with many bloggers, but the main reason that I chose AWeber is it’s Etsy integration. You can set it up to work alongside Etsy so that when someone purchases an item from your shop, it automatically sends them and opt-in to your email list. The $19/month price tag is SO worth it to me for this feature alone! I love that I can keep my Etsy customers up to date with my promotions without worrying about the extra step of soliciting their email every time a purchase is made.

I just joined the AWeber affiliate program at the end of June, so I still don’t have much to report as far as payments and logistics go. What I can say though, is  that the sign-up process is super simple! I got approved in a matter of minutes, and they have a great affiliate support page to help answer any questions along the way.

AWeber pays out a 30% commission per sign-up through your affiliate link. Also, if the subscriber continues to pay monthly, you get a 30% commission every month from their payment. I don’t expect this to be a big earner for me since I don’t blog about email services very often, but it might end up being a nice little supplement down the road. I’ll keep you posted for sure!

JUNE TRAFFIC:

June Traffic and Income Report @ bohoberry.com

Aw! Look at my little baby numbers up there! They’re so cute! But let’s compare them to the previous month (May) for a second, shall we?

  • Users: 1,213 (up 319 or 25.29% from May)
  • Sessions: 1,494 (up 380 or 25.43% from May)
  • Average Session Duration: 2:50 (up 0:96 or 38% from May)

Now, let’s take a look at where all that new traffic came from, shall we? (You can click the image above to enlarge it)

  • Direct Traffic: 60.6%
(this is defined as the user typing in the URL directly or from their bookmarks)
  • Facebook: 18.6%
  • Other: 13.5%
(if anyone knows what this mysterious “other” category means, please let me know haha!)
  • Pinterest: 5.6%

Here’s some interesting stats based on the Social Media source that people are using to find Boho Berry:

  • Facebook: 472 pageviews. The vast majority of my traffic right now is coming from Facebook. I attribute this to the several amazing groups that I’m a part of on Facebook, where there are weekly prompts to share what you’re working on, and network with other bloggers and creative entrepreneurs.
  • Pinterest: 160 pageviews. I’ve been working to improve my presence on Pinterest lately, and these numbers definitely justify that. I know that for most bloggers, Pinterest by far their top referral source, so I can’t afford to miss out.
  • Twitter: 118 pageviews. Although Twitter is only my 3rd highest referrer, the stats here are interesting. It would appear that the people who find Boho Berry through Twitter are MUCH more engaged than other users, spending an average of 10 minutes on the site and viewing about 3.28 pages per session. I’ve been trying to step up my Twitter game as of late, and seeing these numbers tells me that I’m on the right track.
  • Google+: 20 pageviews. I’m still super new to Google+ and to be honest, I haven’t spent much time over there besides just sharing my blog posts as they’re posted. I hear of some people having a lot of success there though, so I’ll be reading up more on Google+ over the next month.

That’s it for traffic! Let’s move on to crunching some numbers, shall we?

JUNE REVIEW:

Since I didn’t have a goal setting session for June, I won’t be reviewing how I did on my goals last month. Instead I’ll start right in on my goal setting for the month of July.

JULY PLANNING:

  1. Gain 50 new email subscribers.
  2. Create a valuable opt-in freebie to increase email subscriptions.
  3. Stick to my new blogging schedule religiously (Monday, Thursday, Saturday posts).
  4. Continue working on my #topsecretproject that I can’t tell you about yet. ;)
  5. Research additional affiliate programs that will suit me and my audience.
  6. Increase Pinterest followers from 124 to 200.
  7. Increase Instagram followers from 255 to 350.
  8. Increase Twitter followers from 96 to 200.

So there you have it! My very first traffic and income report! I have to admit, I was terrified to write this post! Now that I’m done, though, I feel so excited! I can’t wait to see how Boho Berry grows. I’m excited to continue these posts on a monthly basis to keep you posted on my growth. In addition, I think these traffic and income report posts will be really great to look back on when I’m trying to figure out what is working for me and what I might need to ditch.

I’d love to hear from you in the comments below! What did you like/not like about this post? Are there any other traffic and income report stats that you think would be useful for me to track?

  • I love this post! I always like to see what works and what doesn’t work for other business owners. It’s refreshing to see someone starting from scratch and not already pulling 15k per month. I’m looking forward to following your journey!

    • I’m so glad you liked it, Jocelyn! I’ll be super excited to just break even (hopefully soon!), I can’t even imagine bringing in 15K yet ;)

  • This is so cool. Love seeing behind the scenes of growing a blog. I’m new and small too. Love your goals and I may set some for myself this month. Not sure I’m ready to share publicly but maybe a small post somewhere. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Thanks for taking the time to comment, Marina! I know what you mean about sharing… I was super nervous when I hit “publish” on this one, but I see it not only as a way to be more transparent, but as a personal log of my journey as well.

I just checked out your blog, and I love it! Especially your “Take a moment” series! You’ve got a great thing going there :)

  • How cool that we get to track your blogging journey from the early stages. I look forward to seeing your blog grow, as I know it will! :)

    • Thanks Tiffany! You’re a sweetheart!

  • KARA! This is so awesome. I’m really excited that you started tracking your stats too and that we can support one another in our journeys. I love how you broke down where your traffic came from and how engaged they were. The Twitter part was particularly interesting! I think I need to set some SMART goals like you for next month. It’s already July and I haven’t tackled my June post yet…better get on it. Thanks for the motivation and shoutout :) Can’t wait to see how you grow!

    • Hey Marissa! No problemo on the shoutout! You’re the one that really inspired me to break out of my comfort zone and create this series! I hear ya on the Twitter thing… I was so surprised that Twitter was where I was getting the most engagement! I can’t wait to see where we go from here XD

  • Thanks for sharing, I think it’s so great you are sharing this now before you even make any income. So often I see these and people are making hundreds, or thousands of dollars each month. Which is great, but it’s also nice to see people who are closer to where you might be at now.

I see you had a huge jump in traffic, do you mind sharing what you did to get that? Or if you have any plans to try and repeat that?

    • Thank you SO much for your kind words, Kara! That jump in traffic is from when I re-designed my site. I posted about it in a couple of Facebook groups that I’m a part of and asked for opinions/advice on things to change/fix. I don’t really thing that it’s replicable per se, but it felt great knowing that I’m a part of such helpful communities that are willing to help a girl out :)

  • Great idea to really showcase your work from the very beginning! I was literally thinking about showing my first month’s expenses as well!! I love the way you broke your information down. Can’t wait to see how your blog will grow!

    • Thanks Yanni! I’m going to be posting my July report on Monday and I’m so excited to continue this series! It’s an accountability thing for me as much as it is (I hope) a benefit to others… Stay tuned! :)

      • Yay I can’t wait to see! I was scared to showcase mine since this is my very first month, but you have inspired me to start tracking my milestones as well! Can’t wait to see your net in the green!!! :-)

I’ve had my blog for exactly one year now, and I’ve never thought about turning any profit from it. Recently, I finished up my studies and I have more time on my hands for my blog! I’ve always admired your traffic and income reports, that I think I’ll write my very first one for January! Thank you for sharing them with us :) x
