New Year for a New You: Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 of Lisa Jacobs’ New Year for a New You series! I hope that you’ve been enjoying the review process so far and that my responses have helped to spark some ideas to help you along with your own personal review.

Day 1 was all about appreciating all of the good in 2016 — accomplishments, favorite memories, and more!

Day 2 was a continuation of that review, reflecting on some of the tougher questions, and analyzing what could have been better in 2016.

Day 3 was all about intention setting in five areas — financial, spiritual, mental, relational, and physical.

Here are my answers for day 3:

SETTING INTENTIONS FOR 2017

This is one of my favorite days during this seven-day review! Lisa asks us to evaluate what it is we truly want in five different pillars of life. Then, we get to apply a set of questions designed by Tony Robbins to each area of life to determine what our intentions are for 2017.

>> FINANCIAL

What do I want? (vision)

I’m happy to report that I crushed my income goal of 50K in 2016, and this year I’m aiming higher! I want to double my income this year and provide a solid and stable income for my family.

What is important about it? (values)

To me, money = freedom. Freedom from stress, freedom to travel, freedom to choose where we live… in short, freedom to turn our long-term dreams into a reality.

How will I get it? (methods)

  • Creating a marketing calendar for the shop
  • Hiring a local employee (or two) to help with the shop
  • Launching my first handwriting course

What is preventing me from having it? (obstacles)

  • A lack of proper planning
  • Not being able to market my shop to its full potential because I don’t have any help
  • Those dreaded feelings of not being “good enough” to launch my own course

How will I know I’m successful? (measurements)

  • 3 major sales in the shop in 2017
  • Have 500 students in my handwriting course.

>> SPIRITUAL

What do I want? (vision)

I want to be more centered and present in my own life. I want to enjoy my journey through life instead of plowing through it with my head constantly to the grindstone.

What is important about it? (values)

Taking care of myself first will allow me to be a better mother, wife, friend, and leader to my community.

How will I get it? (methods)

  • Stronger focus on self-care
  • Continue my gratitude practice
  • Honing my meditation practice

What is preventing me from having it? (obstacles)

  • Being too focused on work
  • Not being mindful in my day-to-day life

How will I know I’m successful? (measurements)

I will feel at peace with my work/life balance and feel more present in my own life each and every day.

>> MENTAL

What do I want? (vision)

I want to continue to learn and grow in all areas of my life and business.

What is important about it? (values)

I don’t want to become stagnant in life. Continuing my education is important to me because it allows me to grow and evolve as an individual. I didn’t come this far to only come this far.

How will I get it? (methods)

  • Commit to investing without fear in my education
  • Commit to investing without fear in my personal development

What is preventing me from having it? (obstacles)

  • Not making time for learning
  • Not taking initiative to learn something new every day

How will I know I’m successful? (measurements)

I will end 2017 stronger, more engaged, and more knowledgeable than I have ever been before.

>> RELATIONAL

What do I want? (vision)

I want to spend more time creating lasting memories with my friends, family, and loved ones.

What is important about it? (values)

I want to show (not tell) them how much they mean to me. Actions speak much louder than words, and I want them to know how much I care.

How will I get it? (methods)

  • Two big trips with Mark & Bella this year
  • Small getaways with Mark on a regular basis
  • Keeping in touch with loved ones regularly via phone, text, FaceTime, etc.

What is preventing me from having it? (obstacles)

  • Lack of proper planning
  • Not scheduling time in advance

How will I know I’m successful? (measurements)

I will be able to sit down with my family at this time next year and look through photos, share memories, and know that we had an amazing year!

>> PHYSICAL

What do I want? (vision)

I want to re-take control of my own body and to feel great! I have really let myself slip into unhealthy patterns in 2016. It’s time to change that!

What is important about it? (values)

I want to be around for my loved ones for a LONG time, so nipping these unhealthy habits in the bud early is crucial. I want to have more energy to focus on the things that matter most to me.

How will I get it? (methods)

  • Healthy diet – eating out only on special occasions and cooking good food at home
  • Buti Yoga – 5x per week
  • Get back into running with a C25K plan

What is preventing me from having it? (obstacles)

  • Lack of motivation
  • Lack of accountability

How will I know I’m successful? (measurements)

  • I’ll be 15 pounds lighter
  • I’ll be stronger than ever
  • I’ll have renewed energy and motivation
